Do you want to lose weight, quit smoking, or have the confidence to go after the perfect job or approach an attractive member of the opposite sex? Do you believe that these things would be difficult for you to achieve - perhaps even impossible?
Have you ever considered that it might be this ‘belief’ that is the cause of a problem rather than a result of it? How would you behave if you believed at the deepest level that any of these things (or almost anything else) were easy for you, in the same way that you believe it is easy for you to tie your boot laces or to ride a bike?
You don’t ‘try’ to tie your laces or ride a bike - you just do it. The fact is that you can do any of these other things just as easily, no matter how you feel about them just now. The changes that could make you a better, happier, and more productive person really are within your reach, because in a very real way they are already a part of you.
You don’t need a new computer if you suddenly decide that you need to do a new thing with it. You just need new software that makes use of the computer’s innate ability to process information, but uses this in a new way.
This is how hypnosis works: it brings into your everyday experience that which is already within you - the capabilities and strengths that are innate but which may be blocked from expression by subconscious ‘directives’ often acquired during early life. This blockage usually takes the form of strong negative ‘feelings’ that arise apparently spontaneously whenever you are in certain situations, and which prevent you doing the often simple things you need to do. Hypnosis is simply a way to tell the subconscious mind that it is time to start doing things another way. The rest follows automatically.
Many people respond to the suggestion that they might benefit from hypnosis by saying " I can't be hypnotized", often believing that somehow the ability to be hypnotized shows vulnerability or 'weakness of mind'. This comes from the common misunderstanding of what hypnosis is and is not. It is not necessary to be in some sort of an otherworldly trance or under the control of a 'hypnotist' to be in a hypnotic state. Hypnosis is simply a natural state of mind which everyone moves in and out of throughout each day. Many of our everyday normal activities are actually performed in a hypnotic state without us being aware of it.
For example, remember the last time that you drove your car in difficult conditions, perhaps in the dark, on a fast and busy road, in the pouring rain. You know that feeling. It's not that you are oblivious to everything, it's just that you have tuned out all of the unimportant stimuli. Your focus is totally on the task in hand.
Another common example of hypnosis is watching a very interesting program on TV. You couldn't normally sit still for an hour or more, physically doing nothing, but if a program is sufficiently 'absorbing' you will often become more or less unaware of your surroundings while you focus on that little screen across the room for extended periods.
So, hypnosis is no different than driving a car, watching TV, playing video games, or carrying out any other task involving intense concentration. Most people engaged in these activities would not think they are in a trance - but they are. If this subject is of intense interest to you by the way, you are probably drifting into this state right now!
In light hypnosis, your mind slows down just a little, your focus is narrowed, your breathing is slow, and you become physically relaxed. Virtually everyone experiences this state of mind many times in a day, so for someone to say that they cannot be hypnotized is to misunderstand the true nature of hypnosis. The truth is that hypnosis is not something that is 'done to you' by a hypnotist - it is just a natural mental and physical response to certain sets of circumstances. As is often said, in the end, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.
The enormous value of this simple ability is that the hypnotic state is a 'doorway to the subconscious'. You are up to 200 times more suggestible than normal even while you are in a light state of hypnosis. Anything beyond this is unnecessary for most purposes (i.e. programming yourself to lose weight, stop smoking, overcome fear of flying, etc.). You do not need to enter a full trance state - you can have an extremely effective hypnosis session while being aware of and able to recall every word spoken by the hypnotherapist.
Well designed and produced self-hypnosis recordings really are one of the simplest and most accessible methods available to help you achieve that perfect state in which changes are made, and there are few limits on what you can achieve this way, given a little time.
You can change the way you think about yourself and even change your physical health and appearance through directed hypnotic methods. Have more confidence, start losing weight at a noticeable rate, or stop smoking after just 3 weeks of daily self hypnosis. Because the subconscious mind is the ‘regulator’ that controls so many bodily functions, you can even boost your immune system and have more muscle mass and better looking skin - the possibilities are endless.
