Manifestation / Law of Attraction
Tools for personal
development
Following the phenomenal success of 'The Secret' movie and huge promotions by major internet marketers,
the Web is now awash with material about the 'law of attraction'. The principles behind deliberate creation have
become widely known, and there are many web pages, audios and ebooks which explain how various individuals have
made this mysterious process work for them.
The problem is that many marketers have promoted this material literally as a form of magic which will enable
anyone to conjure wealth and material possessions from thin air, essentially just by visualising what is
wanted.
If only.
The fact is that there is much more to manifesting the things you want in your life than spending 5 minutes a
day daydreaming about the better life. The wealth, the new home, the car, and all the other things people try to
create in their lives DO NOT come into reality by some magical process. They come because you change INSIDE in such
a way that these new things now match your internal picture of reality, and then other people 'conspire' (often
unconsciously) to bring them to you in one way or another.
So the bottom line is that first, you need to make some personal changes. Without this essential step,
visualisation will simply not work most of the time. The 'law of attraction' will just continue to bring you what
you think and worry about for the OTHER 97% of your waking hours - and for most of us that is exactly what we don’t
want!
What is 'Manifestation'?
'Manifestation' is the art of conscious creation by nonphysical means - the ability to 'shape' reality through
the power of thought. Many techniques for manifesting are offered, ranging from prayer through goal-setting,
affirmations, meditation and visualisation.
Conscious creation is not a 'self development' process as such, but some degree of personal change is always
absolutely essential before any serious attempt at manifesting can work, so it can be seen as a consequence of
certain forms of personal change.
Although manifestation can be forced by various techniques, it will be an uphill struggle all the way if your
own thought patterns are not a good match for the lifestyle you want.
This idea is far from new - there are references (often obscure) to the concept in many religious books, and
several authors took it up with renewed vigour in the early years of the 20th century, publishing a number of books
which largely fell into obscurity (many of these are available free of charge on our Members Only area). Now once
again, 'manifestation' and 'the law of attraction’ are in vogue and being widely disseminated not only by new age
believers but also by many hard-nosed internet marketers who have recently entered the market for this kind of
information.
Explanations of how the law of attraction works tend to split into two main camps. The older 'new age' idea that
our thoughts have 'vibration levels' and that circumstances or objects have similar vibration levels are drawn
toward the thinker, because 'like attracts like' through some kind of unspecified resonance process. This idea may
sometimes be extended into a 'cosmic ordering service' where it is only necessary to clearly place your order with
a benevolent universe for the object or circumstances to appear. (The marketing advantages of this idea are
obvious).
The interpretation offered by many marketers of ‘LOA’ materials depends on concepts lifted from quantum
mechanics, such as the idea that nothing exists unless it is being observed. In fact there is plenty of
experimental evidence that seems to show that observation of a quantum-level process actually does affect the
'materialisation' of electrons at least (for those interested it is the twin slit electron beam experiment), but
this effect is only partially understood by the scientists who devised the experiment and probably has little
relevance at the macro level of physical reality. Nevertheless, data like this is often cited as 'proof' that it is
somehow possible to materialise physical items from nothingness through 'mind-power' alone.
But there is a more subtle view - one that is difficult to grasp but which is probably the closest we are able
to get to understanding this apparent ‘reality shifting’. This concept also comes from quantum physics, and again
is supported by the maths of quantum probability and by some truly weird experiments that have been carried out by
researchers in the field.
This is the idea that the universe (which is probably just one of many universes, but that is another matter) is
permeated by a quantum energy field that contains all possibilities for matter and the forces that act on it,
existing in some way side by side with one another. These are not parallel universes but simply parallel potential
realities, which have probabilities of coming into our shared physical reality which are determined by the physical
‘laws’ of our universe and by forces we see as determinism, i.e., cause and effect, that massively change the
probability of certain outcomes. However there are many possibilities that could therefore potentially collapse out
of the quantum field at any given time, and may have similar probabilities of doing so, but which ones we as
individuals actually experience may depend literally on our beliefs. By believing in one possibility but not
another, we may literally be filtering out of our reality those things we do not believe can come about, leaving
only those things we expect and therefore ‘attract’.
I did say this was going to be difficult!
So 'explanations' differ, depending on the belief system (or motives) of the explainer. But before we are in any
need of explanations, there is perhaps something else we need to establish - whether there is any evidence that
deliberate 'manifestation' is actually possible at all.
So in the best scientific tradition, here are a couple of experiments for you.
Experiment 1 - physical object
Think of a fairly trivial but unusual object. A blue feather is often suggested, but if anyone near you keeps
budgies this might be too easy! You can make it a red pebble or a foreign coin if you wish, or anything else that
occurs to you. The idea is that the chosen item should be of little value, unusual (as in you have not seen one for
some time) but not too unlikely.
Next use the internet and a paint program to get or create an image of the object (not too much detail), print
off a page of small images, cut them out and then stick copies on your monitor, in your diary and anywhere else you
will see them several times a day. You can just write post-it notes with 'red pebble' or whatever if you do not
have this kind of facility.
For a few days (or maybe a little longer) do this little three or four minute daydreaming exercise whenever you
have the opportunity: Think of a recent happy moment with a person who is close to you, or perhaps a moment you
watched a beautiful sunset or starry sky and realised how lucky you were to be in that moment. Really try to recall
the feeling and add as much appreciation and gratitude for this moment as you can manage. When you have the feeling
in mind, immediately bring up the image of your 'target' and imagine yourself handling it, examining it closely and
being similarly grateful for this evidence that you are on the right track.
Your target object will appear somewhere, often within 24 hours or so, although it may take longer if you don't
get out much and so do not provide many opportunities for ‘serendipity’ to take effect. There is no need to spend
any time looking out for the item, just go about your normal routines and let things happen. After the object has
appeared - think about the implications...
Experiment 2 - circumstances
The next time you are driving to a place where you know that parking will be difficult, before you set off,
allow yourself a littler reverie. Imagine arriving at your destination and finding that a space is simply waiting
for you. The less likely this would normally be, the better. Just try to visualise your destination as the empty
bay and simply 'expect' that there will in fact be a space available in a convenient position as you arrive, and
allow yourself to feel warm gratitude for this.
During the journey let the image of the empty parking bay hover in the back of your mind, but without any sense
of need, or fear that it will not happen (or fear that it will, for that matter). After all, if it does NOT appear
this time, well nothing in this life is ever certain. Nevertheless, try to maintain a simple expectation that on
this occasion there will be no problem finding a space.
Nine times out of ten, there will be a free space waiting for you, very often as another motorist decides to
drive off just as you arrive. The process is so reliable that you can just add it to your standard routines for
making life simpler for yourself, although the implications may warrant a bit more thought. By the way, if you
don't drive there will be other situations where a similar technique will work, and you will need to devise a
suitable experiment involving the everyday decisions of other people, to suit your circumstances.
So now what?
Assuming you have successfully carried out the experiments, you should now understand that you really DO have
some power to influence your own reality, even if this is only 'baby steps' so far.
The demonstrations deliberately make use of small events which have little emotional significance, and which
only involve slight changes from the norm, for reasons that will become clear as you look into this subject in
greater detail. In fact, the outcome of deliberate manifestation is always capable of some non-spiritual
‘explanation’ such as co-incidence, no matter how far fetched this may be. Why this is the case is simply a mystery
- that’s just how things are, and sometimes we just have to accept that something is simply unknowable.
In fact, many people who carry out the experiments and succeed with the 'demos' just continue with their old
beliefs and put their successes down to chance, even though they can in fact be repeated at any time with the same
results. This is the way we all think - we try to explain all events and circumstances in the light of our existing
beliefs, both conscious and subconscious, even if this means flying in the face of evidence that does not 'fit'.
This partially inertia, but there is also a buried ‘fear factor’, because the success of increasingly large
manifestation projects will show that the very core of the things you currently believe is simply wrong, or at best
incomplete. This knowledge threatens the ego, and resistance will automatically grow in direct proportion to the
changes you succeed in bringing about.
And this is precisely why most people, including those who have demonstrated to themselves in a small way that
there is truth in the idea of manifesting, never go beyond this point. Even those who look further into the idea,
and learn to visualise and to infuse their visualisations with emotions of gratitude and expectation, may
experience mixed results at best, and increasing ego resistance will eventually force them to give up trying
So what is necessary to go beyond the non-threatening ‘baby steps’ and make manifestation a real part of
everyday life?
The ‘process’ itself is fairly clear, and you can find the bare bones information all over the internet. In
essence it can be summarised as follows. You must first decide exactly what it is you want to manifest. This
includes every detail you can come up with, as if you were buying this goal from a ‘bespoke’ supplier who needs an
exact specification to work from. Imagine you are preparing a contract that lays down precisely what it is you
want, with absolutely no ‘wriggle room’ for the supplier.
Next, spend time every day imagining how your life will be (not ‘would be’) when (not if) the goal becomes your
reality. I use the term ‘imagining’, but it is more than this. In your mind, you need to put your present self
actually within this future self, so that you see what the future self sees, hear, smell and feel what the future
self experiences, and even think as the future self will be thinking in the changed set of circumstances. But not
only that you must ‘feel’ what your future self feels - the sheer gratitude you will feel when your dream has
actually become your reality.
But there is more. As you do the exercise above, your resistance will grow. Little negative thoughts will creep
in, doing other things will suddenly seem much more important, the whole idea of ‘wasting’ time doing these
exercises when you could be working directly toward your goal will suddenly seem futile. In short, your own
subconscious mind will begin actively working against you, because you are making serious efforts to alter your
reality so it no longer fits within the framework laid out by your internal belief system.
So the real answer to the question ‘what must you do to make manifestation work for you’ is - you must change
your internal belief system so you can ‘allow’ manifestation to occur. This is absolutely essential before you set
out to change your life, or you will not only be swimming against the current all the way, but the speed of the
current will increase with any progress you are able to make by sheer willpower just as soon as you try to go
beyond a red pebble or a parking space.
And how to do that? Well that is what this web site is basically about. In particular you might want to
investigate the possibilities of meditation and self hypnosis. There are also several articles about the Law of
Attraction and related matters, and a review of the Revolutioniz - one of the most comprehensive guides to
manifestation available. But now there is a new course that you can use to ‘fast track’ your progress. It is a
system developed by an ‘ordinary’ young British man, that quite simply allowed him to utterly transform his life in
around 3 months. The information is comprehensive, elegant and effective (you only need to see the testimonials the
author has collected). And unlike most of the ‘LOA’ and ‘manifestation’ material you will find, it avoids all the
quasi-scientific ‘explanations’ and the spiritual approach and instead presents a rational and simple system for
manipulating your personal reality. Click on the banner below for more information (page will open in a new tab or
