“When I read the ‘Third Eye’ by Lobsang Rampa as an impressionable youth I was fascinated by this esoteric concept. Perhaps it was that association that caused me to respond to a web site offering to open this very eye.
I had just returned from a journey away and wished to find a new approach to meditation. Although I had been using T.M. on and off all my life I had never managed to develop a regular discipline with it. Hence, when the search term ‘Meditation Course’ threw up Theodore von Kiedrowski’s openyourthirdeye.com I was naturally intrigued.
T.Von.K claimed to be a mystic of some 30 years practice, who had performed more than 40,000 hours of meditation and studied under many famous teachers. He offered a ‘never before revealed’ meditation technique to open the third eye, a guide based on a successful four-hour seminar that he gives. This sounded interesting and the 30 day money back guarantee helped to quell my inevitable scepticism. I ‘googled’ his name, of course, and came up with one other website. This also promoted his work in conjunction with a book I knew to be of value called ‘Adventures in EFT’ by Silvia Hartmann. Armed with this small bit of encouragement I parted with my $35 and downloaded the - ‘game’.
The text begins with an intro about the author which I'd already read on the promotional web page. As I read on I was mildly disappointed to find no in-depth information about the ‘third eye’ itself or the other ‘chakras’. Neither was there any meaningful information as to why I should open my ‘third eye’ nor what I should expect to experience by doing so.
This handbook, which in hard copy should probably be called a pamphlet, described one central idea - that I should meditate on a very basic home made ‘mandala’*. This was to be preceded by some elementary breathing /relaxation exercises, and some grounding exercises.
*A Sanskrit word loosely meaning ‘circle’, now used to denote an image or geometric pattern that symbolically represents the structure of the cosmos from man’s point of view - Ed.
Meditating on a candle flame was also recommended, and some nutritional advice was offered in the form of a vague suggestion that the reader should take unspecified multivitamins and minerals.
In short there was no information that couldn’t be obtained, for free, from many sources on the internet. And this from a man who claims that he –‘Has Already Been Criticized For Giving Away Too Much Information At Once’!
An explanation as to why this simple form of meditation could have such a dramatic effect on your consciousness as ‘inverting the third eye in as little as two weeks’ would have been interesting. And some detail about the actual meditation process, about the distractions and difficulties it presents and how to overcome them would have been worthwhile.
Sadly I was unimpressed and requested my money back.
Getting no reply despite patiently waiting a full week, I took the issue to Clickbank who promptly refunded me. I sent feedback to the author but again there was no reply.
Had this product been advertised as an introductory course in Meditation and priced at around $10 it might have been of some worth. But even the three bonus books I received couldn’t compensate me for the yawning gap between the promise and the reality of this course.
For those genuinely interested in discovering more about this subject I would recommend the free e-book, ‘Awakening the Third Eye’. You can download a copy here.”
