“OrangePeel Ltd, a company based in New Zealand, has come up with one of the few really innovative tools for goal setting that I have seen in some time. It is basically a way of making your goals and dreams more ‘acceptable’ to the subconscious mind, and so more achievable. It does this by displaying your dream images, affirmations and power words on your computer screen in a dynamic presentation format.
I thought it looked like an interesting idea and decided to get a copy. Now that I have been using ‘Vision Board’ for a couple of weeks, I thought I should share some of my impressions with you about whether or not it lives up to the promises that OrangePeel Ltd makes about it on their web site. Is it really that easy to use? Would it really be that flexible and fun to create a personal Vision Board? And the ‘bottom line’ - would it really keep me in a positive mindset and so inspired to reach my goals and dreams?
The first thing that impressed me was how easy it was to order the product, get the download and install the software. I think I was actually putting my own pictures into the system within about 10 minutes of ordering, and there were also a number of unadvertised bonus products with the download that I had not expected. In general a pretty good start that was very encouraging.
I have never personally used the ‘visualisation board’ method of reinforcing goals, although I have every reason to believe that it should work, so Vision Board was my introduction to this technique.
Despite the flashy ‘movie-like’ effects you see on the demo web page, it is actually very simple to use the control interface to put a personal set of images and affirmations together. I am always relieved when apparently difficult things actually work right the first time. In this case there is a simple three-step process that anyone could manage.
I had a little play around, and surprised myself by finding that I enjoyed the process of making my own ‘vision board’ enormously. It is a great way of reviewing what goals are important to you, and of bringing these together in one place - a kind of distillation or focusing operation that clarifies things enormously.
Probably the hardest part was choosing which images to include and which to reject. It was very easy to find numbers of inspiring images on my computer and online to include in the tool. I also checked out the image library that is included in the software, where I found a couple of great images I could use. The trouble is that it is quite easy to forget why you are doing this, and to consider including pictures just because they look great.
This is where the ‘focusing’ part comes in - you need to be clear on your ‘top 8’ goals first, and only then start the search for images that specifically represent these goals. From my knowledge of how the subconscious mind works, for this technique to be effective you need to get your set of images right from the start, because time will be needed to bring them into your reality. If you decide after a week or a month to change the images, the time you have spent looking at them will have been wasted, and you will then ‘start from scratch’ with the new image, unless it is simply another representation of the same goal.
You can also add your own written affirmations to the Vision Board screen. I already had a set that I am currently working on, using our Subliminal Cookbook software and the Mindzoom desktop ‘screen flash’ software, so I used these. Otherwise it is not difficult to come up with powerful affirmations supporting any goals, to add to the pictures. But even if you find this process difficult (or if you just need some starting points) there are some pretty comprehensive ‘libraries’ of affirmation suggestions that come with the software. If you don’t know how to formulate an affirmation or ‘power word’, or just need some inspiration just use these.
Once you have entered your affirmations you can choose the font and colour, and you can change some other settings such as the colour or image to use as your Vision Board background. I chose a picture I made on one of my travels of a beautiful ocean island backdrop, as one of my current goals is to make more time for travelling with my family.
As soon as I had put my Vision Board together with my 8 images, affirmations, power words and my chosen background I clicked on ‘Preview’ and pop, there was my Vision Board on screen!
Once again I rather surprised myself by my reaction to these images assembled together in this way. I actually felt rather inspired by this Vision Board. Because I had spent time and care in putting it together, it really did seem to act as a focus point for the things and circumstances I want to bring into my life.
When I turn on my computer in the morning my Vision Board shows as the desktop ‘wallpaper’. When I come back into my office after lunch or a meeting, my Vision Board is right there showing as the screensaver, and this greatly helps me to dive right back into my work with renewed enthusiasm!
Sometimes I just bring it up on my screen to have a look and get focused again. I lean back and look at the dream images on my screen and really feel what it will be like to have that car, or to go on those travels. I remember why I am working on my PC to build and improve my web sites and feel inspired to take massive action to get even closer to my goals. Because this ‘vision board’ makes me feel as if I already have and do the things represented by the images, I know I will attract them into my reality very soon. This is what I have learned about The Law of Attraction: the more positive energy you give to your goals, the faster you will manifest them.
And there is one more feature I did not initially realise was there! After a while I discovered the ‘export’ function in the software, which allows you to create ‘free standing’ animated screen savers which you can used on your laptop or even on a PDA. You can even export copies for others to share
All in all I am impressed with this tool. The idea is simple (even if the technology is not) and the bottom line is that this software does everything it claims to. It is a MUST for anyone who is serious about attracting real success and abundance and wanting to stay inspired.
